VW Caddy 14D
Last year, I made some money selling my shares of the camper van platform Vans of Germany, which I co-founded together with my brother and my father and invested it to buy my dream car: an old VW Caddy 14D from 1990, the same year I was born.

As most of you know by now, I live without permanent residency and having a car in which I can store all of my belongings (besides the two boxes I'm storing at a friend's place in Frankfurt) and potentially sleep inside simply seemed to be a good idea. Since then, Leonie and I have made several beautiful trips with it, including one through Italy, where I decided that the car would become an official artwork of mine. To manifest this decision, I took the picture above and uploaded it to my website.

Until now, I didn't dare to officially announce or promote it publicly (other than my website). Mainly because I feel bad for driving around in an old car like this and well… driving a car in general.

After all, when I started my artistic journey, I did so mainly to promote a sustainable way of life.

So, why am I driving this car? Why is it even an artwork and how is this promoting a sustainable lifestyle?

The answer is: I don't really know. Not everything I do makes sense. Not even to me. What I do know is that this car is my latest artwork and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Inspired by the film Drive My Car and to convince you of the artistic power of my car (and maybe also to feel less bad about owning this car), I would like to invite you to drive it. All you have to do is to pick it up in Berlin-Lichtenberg (where I'm currently staying as artist in residence at the Lichtenberg Studios) at the end of this month and take care of it for the next three months, which I will be spending in Cairo, Egypt (I know, not very sustainable either). If this sounds interesting to you, email me with some infos about you and how you would like to use the car during this time, so we can arrange everything.

Also, should you be in Berlin, I would like to invite you to join me on a walk through Lichtenberg. Simply answer to this email and let me know when you are free.

I hope you're doing well and you will continue to follow my journey via this mailing list.

All the best
Simon

PS – Please keep sending me dog poop bags. The collection is growing steadily and I'm planning to exhibit it soon.

PPS – Besides travelling and driving around in my "new" car, I'm actually working on a ton of new stuff and I hope to be able to give you some updates soon…
